Jeannet Klement

Pleased to meet you

Jeannet Klement is a visual artist and works primarily with clay.

She lives and works in Amsterdam.
She creates figurative sculptures and scenes in coarse chamotte clay. Most of her works are based on impressions of daily life, with a focus on people. She can be inspired by something she sees on the street, or by scenes from a book, a newspaper article, or a film.
She often zooms in on seemingly ordinary, familiar situations, recognizable to everyone.
The work is playful, but also has a serious side. It is colorful, often heavily glazed, but sometimes simply colored clay with painterly details. She often works in series or themes.
Her visual language and style of decoration are inspired by painters like Matisse and Alice Neel, the figurative ceramics of Beatrice Wood, as well by 17th-century floral still lifes.

Resides and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
