Jeannet Klement

Please to meet you

Jeannet Klement is a visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. She creates figurative sculptures and scenes in clay, drawing on impressions and observations from her daily life, with a strong focus on the human figure.

Her work is loosely modeled, vibrant in color, and rich in detail. Postures, gestures, clothing, and surroundings are carefully observed and rendered. Klement not only depicts people in their contemporary environment, but also reveals their inner vitality and vulnerability.

She zooms in on seemingly insignificant moments—scenes that are universally recognizable, yet open to personal interpretation. This sometimes results in an unintended sense of humor, often evoking a quiet smile in the viewer.

In her use of form and decoration, she is inspired by artists such as Henri Matisse, Alice Neel, and the figurative ceramics of Beatrice Wood, as well as by 17th-century floral still lifes.
