The Absurdity of the Ordinary
Geke Schalkwijk is an artist inspired by everyday life and behavior in the modern Western world. He is fascinated by the malleability of contemporary existence and aims to reveal the absurdity of our seemingly normal lives.
Geke achieves this by working with everyday objects, archetypes, and symbols from our time, which he alters, distorts, or places in new contexts. Through these transformations, he explores the norms and values attributed to these objects and symbols over the years. By changing them, Geke offers a critical and refreshing perspective on modern life.
His work invites us to reflect on the influence of our habits and the malleability of our culture.
